THE KING RETURNS
When Sue Ozar was teaching at St. Francis (part of the Children’s Village along with St. Clare) eleven years ago, she had a young 7th grader whom she admired and loved in her English class. This young man, John King, touched Madam Sue who says, “He was my favorite student for not only was her very bright, but he worked hard. He was a gentle boy.” Each day, John would come to her office and help her doing things like covering books. After Sue returned to the U.S., a relative removed John and he began a decade of abuse. His story became unbelievable and sad.
Never forgetting John, Sue tried to connect with him two years ago but was told, “King is dead.” On her recent trip to St. Francis/St. Clare, a young man approached Sue after a class, saying, “Madam Sue, I am John King.” It was a touching moment for this young six-footer to reunite with his former teacher. Sue and John had a great visit.
John is still searching. He escaped the abusive situation and lives in Samburu where he helps his mother and grandmother. In addition, he volunteers as a teacher at a local school. His goal is to go to college and become a teacher “like Madam Sue.”
