FROM DIRT TO LUSH GRASS
For years, the “play area” for the girls at St. Clare Centre has been a virtual dust bowl. The only things growing there were weeds including their long tendrils. In the Spring of 2016, Mr. Mutwiri decided he was tired of the mud and dirt being dragged into St. Clare. He had the entire area dug up, weeded, and planted with patches of a grass native to Kenya. These patches extend underground and spread so that over time, a grassy carpet emerges. Since this grass does not grow very high, no cutting is needed. The photos show the girls playing in their new area and also relaxing ON the grass, something impossible on the dirt.
