FoKO Miracles: Meet Rachael

Welcome to the very first edition of FoKO Miracles! This new series will share the inspiring stories of extraordinary girls from St. Clare who have triumphed against all odds. These stories are a testament to the life-changing impact of your generosity.

Our first miracle is Rachael. Rachael grew up in the Mathare slums of Nairobi, where life was a daily struggle. Her single mother worked tirelessly to support their family, but food was scarce—sometimes there was only enough for one meal a day. Sending Rachael to school felt like an impossible dream. In Mathare, where hardship was a constant reality and hope seemed out of reach, Rachael recalls her childhood as a nightmare.

Everything changed in 2009 when Rachael met Catholic nuns who helped her join the St. Clare family. There, she found more than an education—she discovered love, peace, and a community that became her home. Guided by the pillars of Prayers, Study, Work, and Sports, Rachael grew into a confident and determined young woman.

Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, Rachael received not only a life-changing education at St. Clare but also the opportunity to pursue higher education. After excelling in her national exams, she enrolled at Embu University, where she recently graduated with a Bachelor of Education Science in Biology and Chemistry.

In her own words, Rachael shares, “Thank you for moulding us into young and smart women. I promise to spread your love all over the world.” She credits the lessons of sisterhood, kindness, and perseverance she learned at St. Clare as the foundation of her success.

Today, Rachael is ready to step into the world as a teacher. She dreams of inspiring children, especially in underprivileged communities, and showing them that love and determination can break the cycle of poverty.
